It caught my attention. We hade lots of coons in Newark NJ. We also had skunks, beaver, and possums.
The unfortunate thing, is that the word is a double entendre meaning both raccoon and pejoratively, African-American. I can’t say I am surprised nor disappointed that a “Christian” would be so ugly. As for the skunks, DC still has an abundance of them
